Türkiye’de
merkez solda yer alan prestiji yüksek, ama tirajı o kadar da yüksek olmayan
(60-70bin) bir gazetede haftada 5 gün editoryal karikatür çiziyorum. Karikatürlerimle daha ileri daha gelişmiş demokratik değerleri savunuyorum. Türkiye’yi daha geri götürecek sosyal ve siyasal anlayışlara karşı tepki veriyorum. Ve sorunların savaşsız çözümlendiği daha adil bir dünyadan yana duruyorum. 2004’ün ilk aylarında Türkiye’nin gündeminde dini eğitim veren liseler vardı. Başbakan bunların etki alanını genişletmek isteyince büyük tepkilerle karşılaştı. Ben de karikatürlerimle bu tepkilere katıldım. Çizdiğim karikatür dava konusu oldu ve mahkum oldum. Bu mahkumiyete en başta ülkenin karikatüristleri itiraz etti,yüzlerce karikatür çizildi.Türkiye’de aylarca mahkum edilen karikatürün masumiyeti konuşuldu. En genelde karikatür konuşuldu. Bu süreçte karikatüristin gücü bir kez daha kanıtlanmıştı. CRN’nin ödülü ile de bu gücün evrensel bir boyutta olduğu anlaşıldı. Türkiye’de gazeteler CRN’nin sergilediği büyük dayanışmaya geniş yer verdiler. Bugün karikatüristler daha moralli ve idareciler karikatüristleri dava etmeden önce daha çok düşünecekler. I draw editorial cartoon 5 days a week in a high prestigious newspaper
which takes part in the central left in Turkey but does not have that high
circulation. I defend more developed, more democratic values with my
cartoons.
I react against the social and the political understandings that will take Turkey back. And I draw for a more fair world in which the problems are solved without war. In the early months of 2004, the islamic high schools (imam hatips) were in the spotlight in Turkey. When the prime minister wanted to expand their domain he got big reactions. I drew a cartoon about the matter and got sued by the prime minister his self. When I was fined 5000 TL(turkish liras), all the cartoonists of the country protested the verdict and hundreds of cartoons were drawn. The innocence of my cartoon was talked about for months. In most generally (editorial) cartoon was talked about. In that process the power of the cartoonist was proved and with the support of CRN it was understood that it was a worldwide and universal power. Today the cartoonists in Turkey have higher morale and the rulers will think longer before suing the cartoonists. By this means I would like to thank to CRN for the incredible support they gave me.
